When you replace a toilet at home by yourself, be sure you do these important things:
1. Turn off the water valve.
2. Check if you can turn off the main valve. This way, you can replace the shut-off valve if needed. Sometimes, old valves need to be replaced.
3. Remove the old toilet and clean the area underneath it. Make sure to remove any silicon or obstacles. If you don't clean well, the new toilet may not sit straight on the floor.
4. When installing the new toilet, it's recommended to put the two screws down with a locked nut and tighten them. This will prevent the screws from moving when you put the toilet on top.
5. Use the thickest wax in the market or two wax pieces, one with rubber and one without. Put the one with rubber directly on top of the exit hole and stick the other on the back of the toilet. Carefully place the toilet on top of the wax without moving the two screws from the floor. Finally, put another nut on top of each screw.
